Tsurugi no Tekimetsu 滅

1. Comparison to Concept Document

In my initial concept document, Tsurugi no Takimetsu was envisioned as a dynamic game featuring a character inspired by the popular anime Demon Slayer. However, i couldn't manage to design the sprite for the character so, this foundation aimed to capture the essence of thrilling sword combat set against fantastical enemies. The final build successfully maintains this core theme, allowing players to engage in sword fights against a diverse range of flying and ground adversaries.

However, as development progressed, the designs for both the player character and enemies evolved from the initial concepts, resulting in an artistic direction that still pays homage to its inspirations. The final version retains all key features outlined in the original concept, essential for delivering an engaging gameplay experience:

  • 2D Tilemap System: This allows for intricate environment creation, facilitating visually appealing game worlds.
  • Sprite Animation: Dynamic sprite animations enhance player and enemy movements, enriching the immersive experience.
  • Physics Engine: Realistic interactions between game objects provide satisfying feedback for actions such as attacks and collisions.
  • Particle System: Visual effects add flair to actions, making the game vibrant and engaging.
  • Animation Controllers: These ensure seamless transitions between character states, enhancing fluidity during gameplay.
  • Cinemachine: This integration enables dynamic camera movements, enhancing visual storytelling.
  • Audio System: Immersive sound effects and music contribute significantly to the game’s atmosphere.
  • Lighting and Effects: Creative use of lighting enhances the game’s visual quality.
  • Raycast: This feature visualizes player actions during combat, improving gameplay clarity.

New Features

Alongside the established features, several new elements have been introduced to enrich the game further:

  • Player Input System: This extended system offers smoother controls, allowing players to execute complex maneuvers intuitively.
  • Bow and Arrow Mechanic: Players can engage enemies from a distance, adding strategic depth to combat.
  • Health Bar: A visual health bar provides real-time status information, aiding player strategy.
  • Damage Texts: Displaying damage values enhances player engagement by providing immediate feedback on attacks.
  • Health Pickups: Scattered health items encourage exploration and add strategic layers to gameplay.
  • EndGamePickup: After defeating all enemies, this item is triggered to be picked up by the player and triggers the Game Over screen, while a "You Died" screen appears upon player defeat.
  • Parallax Background: This effect creates a more immersive environment, enhancing visual depth as players navigate through scenes.
